Push to The Latest: No

SAM Magazine—Denver, July 10, 2017—Denver will host the winter and summer Outdoor Retailer trade shows for the next five years, industry and elected COConvention esizeofficials said last week. Starting in January 2018, show organizer Emerald Expositions will host three shows in Denver each year—the OR Summer Market, plus the combined Winter Market + Snow Show in January, and a new apparel-oriented OR Winter Market in November.

The news solidifies several changes that have been in the works for months, if not years. SIA president Nick Sargent said that a combination of the shows has been on his agenda from the start of his term nearly two years ago. One stumbling block: Emerald Expositions had a contract with Salt Lake City’s Salt Palace Convention Center through 2018. However, Salt Lake and Emerald agreed to end the contract after OR’s summer 2017 show in late July, making the shift of the January 2018 show to Denver possible.

Further, the OR summer show will eventually shift from its typical late July/early August date to June.

Shifting the Summer Market and adding the new Winter Market dates became possible after Visit Denver, which manages show dates at the Convention Center, shuffled previously-booked trade shows to accommodate the OR shows, which combined are expected to draw 85,000 visitors each year.

Separately, SIA said that it and Emerald are working on future dates to accommodate the On Snow Demo and Industry + Intelligence events as part of the Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show.
