SAM Magazine—Aspen, Colo., July 19, 2017—Aspen Skiing Company’s chief operating officer, David Perry, left the company Monday to become a full-time consultantDavidPerry esize in launching the as-yet-unnamed SkiCo/KSL Capital Partners joint venture, which recently got the green light from regulators to move forward with its acquisitions of Intrawest and Mammoth Resorts.

According to a report by The Aspen Times, once the acquisitions are completed, Perry will be named to a yet-to-be-determined role with the consolidated management company. Whatever the position will be, the opportunity was good enough to leave a high-ranking role at one of the world’s most iconic resorts.

"They are going to be big shoes to fill, for sure," SkiCo CEO Mike Kaplan said. "His leadership, industry knowledge and passion for the sport and lifestyle have been key to our success. Although he will be missed, we look forward to working with David and the newly consolidated company on potential future projects and we know he will be a great asset to the new venture."

Perry has a lot of work to do between the expected August closings for each acquisition and the beginning of the ski season, including naming the new company and integrating the collection of resorts it will manage. SkiCo and the new company will be owned separately, but will work together “where it makes sense,” said Perry.

Perry joined SkiCo in 2002, and rose through the ranks until being named COO in 2014. Before joining SkiCo, he served as executive director for Colorado Ski Country USA. He also worked in marketing for Intrawest, and was marketing director for Whistler before it was purchased by Intrawest.
