SAM Magazine—Salida, Colo., Sept. 24, 2024—Monarch Mountain has appointed Chris Haggerty as the new general manager of the ski area. Chris HaggertyHaggerty succeeds retiring GM and COO Randy Stroud, who will stay on for the 2024-25 winter season to help with the transition. 

“Having worked various positions in the industry, Haggerty will provide a unique, well-rounded perspective for the independently owned ski area,” said the resort in a statement. “His commitment to delivering outstanding visitor experiences aligns seamlessly with Monarch Mountain’s culture. He brings with him a lifelong passion for the ski industry and a proven track record of leadership, team-building, and operational excellence.”

“My leadership approach has always been centered on building lasting connections with my teams,” said Haggerty. “This has been key not only for team retention but also for operational success. I am excited to bring this philosophy to Monarch Mountain, where I see a natural alignment with the resort’s mission of cultivating real connections with both team members and guests.”

Prior to joining Monarch, Haggerty was a longtime team member at Mountain Creek Resort, N.J., where he served as general manager from 2001-2022. He most recently served as the director of operations at Crystal Springs Resort, a New Jersey golf and spa destination.

Monarch is offering guests the opportunity to meet Haggerty from 1-3 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 28 at its annual Crest End of Season Closeout Sale.
