Vonn had posted the fastest first interval and was having a strong run when she went down off a jump midway down the course. One report said that Vonn lost her balance on upon landing, lost her ski, and slid into a gate before coming to a stop.
Weather may have been a factor. The start of the race was postponed several times over three and a half hours due to fog, and went into a 15-minute hold after the first eight racers had completed their runs. Vonn ran 19th.
World Cup points leader and two-time Olympic silver medalist Tina Maze of Slovenia won the race, with American Julia Mancuso in third.
