Hileman died in a small avalanche that took her over a cliff at Snowmass in the Hanging Valley Wall area, one of the steepest sections of the resort. She was on duty and skiing by herself at the time of the accident, in a permanently closed area where the patrol occasionally works. Her death triggered an investigation by OSHA, which ended last week. The agency found no violations of OSHA regulations in the incident.
In a statement, Aspen Snowmass spokesman Jeff Hanle said, “Patsy’s death was a terrible tragedy. We will remain vigilant, and as always, we are constantly evaluating our policies and procedures, but at this time there is no additional action we feel is needed.”
