Monarch’s Moorhead Latest to Announce Retirement

  • Push to The Latest: No

Moorhead’s tenure at Monarch has seen six different owners and more than $8 million in capital improvements. He oversaw the development of Monarch Snowcat Tours, the inclusion of Mirkwood into the ski area’s Special Use Permit, and the development of three separate Master Development Plans, all of which were approved by the U.S. Forest Service.

Moorhead joined Monarch as a lift attendant in 1976 and went on to work in the grooming operations and as a professional ski patroller. He became patrol director in 1981. Moorhead directed all summer maintenance and construction at the ski area, and served as the Forest Service liaison, submitting operating and construction plans. Moorhead was named assistant general manager in 1985 and general manager in 1993.

“I’m encouraged by the amount of bright, young, talent that is joining the management team,” Moorhead said. “This bodes well for a bright and prosperous future for Monarch Mountain.”

Monarch will announce plans to fill the CEO position in April.
