SAM MAGAZINE—Zanesfield, Ohio, Sept. 18, 2015—The lodge at Mad River Mountain caught fire and was destroyed Wednesday night. The resort was closed at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. There is currently no information as to the cause of the fire.

Reports indicate that part of the A-frame brick and mortar building is still standing. However, the main portion of the lodge, better known as the Loft, was constructed from wood and is now destroyed.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, it’s believed oxygen canisters stored in the lodge for rescue operations helped fuel the fames.

Mad River Mountain issued a statement on its Facebook page on Wednesday night saying, “We are at a loss for words. The Loft was iconic. Thanks 2 all the well wishers, firefighters and public safety. #wewillstillski #memorieslive4ever.”

A spokesperson for the mountain said it intends to open on time for the upcoming winter season. Preliminary information indicates that along with no injuries, the property damage will only affect food and beverage services this winter, “a situation we expect to be able to address with temporary facilities,” Peaks said in a prepared statement.
