Wildcat Fires Up Snow Guns

  • Push to The Latest: No

As a result, the summit and Upper and Middle Lynx trails are covered in snow. And, while Wildcat opened on Nov. 9 last year, general manager Brian Heon said the main goal this year is to offer top-to-bottom skiing starting on opening day, whenever that may be.

“We feel our guests deserve a quality product from day one,” said Heon. “While we don't know what day we'll open this year, the cold temps this weekend helped us get a head start on our snowmaking efforts.”

During summer 2014, Wildcat upgraded its snowmaking infrastructure resort-wide, replacing more than 10 miles of pipe, installing energy-efficient snowmaking guns, and building a new pump house. These efforts allowed the ski area, which offers 48 trails and a terrain park on 225 skiable acres, to open early and stay open until May 4, the longest season in the state. Heon said he’s hoping to beat that record this year.
