SAM Magazine—Natick, Mass., Jan. 15, 2025—Online voting for the videos produced by five chosen resorts competing in the 2025 “I AM a Snowmaker” contest, sponsored by HKD Snowmakers, is now open. Voting ends Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 11:59 p.m. EST. 

Since it debuted in winter 2013-14, the annual I AM contest has served as an important recognition of North American resort snowmaking teams and their critical role in the success of the mountain resort industry. 

This season, five ski areas—including the contest’s first cross-country operation—vie for the I AM title with videos showcasing a “day in the life” of their snowmaking teams. Each video is unique, and all are testaments to the grit and dedication of crews across North America.

The competitors are:

Big Sky Resort, Mont.

Bolton Valley, Vt.

Holiday Valley, N.Y.

Jackson XC, N.H.

Mount Sima, Yukon, Canada

“Since the beginning, the goal of I AM has remained the same: to shine a spotlight on the dedication, passion, and hard work of snowmaking teams across the industry,” said HKD Snowmakers president Charles Santry. “The five competing snowmaking teams in 2025 showcase a wide range of geographic regions, crew sizes, and personalities. I can’t wait to see each resort rally their community behind their snowmakers and their videos. Be sure to watch them all and vote early and often!”

The crew’s video with the most votes at the end of the voting period wins a two-day trip to HKD’s Canadian headquarters in Quebec. 

“I AM has helped to give the public a greater appreciation of these hard-working men and women over the years by taking us behind the scenes and showing what it takes to be a snowmaker,” said SAM publisher Olivia Rowan. “This year’s videos continue that tradition and we’re proud to share them with our audience.”
