Bombardier Purchased by Track Supplier

SAM Magazine--Sherbrooke, Que., Aug. 3, 2004--Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. is selling its industrial vehicle division, including snow groomers, to Quebec component-maker Camoplast Inc., which produces rubber tracks and components for groomers and other heavy-duty tracked vehicles. Terms of the transaction were not released. The sale is expected to close by the end of the month.

The industrial vehicle line includes tracked vehicles for the natural resources, energy and telecom industries around the world as well as groomers. Manufacturing operations for BDP Industrialwill remain at BDP Industrial's plant in Granby, Que.

Bombardier Recreational was part of Canadian industrial giant Bombardier Inc. until it was sold in December 2003 for C$960 million to a group that included members of the founding Bombardier family. BRP retains its recreational vehicles business, including Ski-Doo and Lynx snowmobiles, Sea-Doo watercraft and Evinrude and Johnson outboard engines.

Camoplast manufactures rubber tracks, exterior body panels, under-the-hood plastic components and assemblies for cars, heavy trucks and farm vehicles. Camoplast president Pierre Marcouiller said that the purchase of BRP Industrial will provide the company with "growth opportunities" as well as "access to the industry's most competent and well respected workforce." Camoplast has 1,500 employees in Canada, the U. S., Mexico and Europe. \
