Collectively, reporting resorts reduced CO2 emissions through energy, waste and transportation reduction measures by 322,020,059 total pounds. That includes reductions of 155,463,435 equivalent pounds of CO2 emissions by reducing transportation demands and 90,215,882 pounds of CO2 emissions by conserving electrical energy and generating or purchasing renewable energy. Twenty-one reporting resorts purchased green or renewable energy for their operations totaling 47 million kilowatt-hours in 2003.
Other conservation efforts show that resorts conserved approximately 42 million gallons of water for consumptive uses per year, and diverted approximately 8,190 tons per year of solid waste from landfills, either through source reduction or recycling.
