The tour will hit four nationwide regions including, Edinburgh, Swadlincote, Plymouth and Chatham from 5th September - 1st October. Four schools are visited in each region, Tuesday to Friday, promoting the Snowlife 'Ride & Slide' event held that weekend at the local slope, where pupils and public alike are invited to try either sport for free.
Snowlife is a national campaign led by the Snowsports Industries of Great Britain (SIGB) to encourage greater participation in snowsports. The Snowlife Schools Tour initiative is part of a long-term project to combat inactivity and obesity in youngsters, by promoting the accessibility and positive benefits of these sports. The working model for this initiative is taken from the extremely successful Schools Tour which accompanies the British Snowboard & Freeski Championships - The Orange AIM Series.
The Schools Tour takes over the PE curriculum for one day at each school, where the professional, award-winning athletes present the various elements and disciplines of snowboarding and skiing, involving students in everything from the fundamental basics, through to mountain safety, and how school studies can compliment sporting development. The high-impact, interactive presentation includes a video show; cat walk; Q&A sessions; equipment displays; trampoline demonstration; product sampling and countless give-aways, plus of course the fantastic gift of a FREE snowboard/ski lesson at the local slope.
The hour long 'Ride & Slide' free lessons are taught by qualified instructors and all participants get a fantastic Snowpack, which will include a DVD, wallet, sweat bands, pencil tin, pens, stickers and posters, to bring home. To register for a free lesson and for more information on the Snowlife Schools Tour log on to www.snowlife.org.uk. To compliment this initiative, local snowsport retailers in each region are also offering purchase discounts to the public.
