SAM Magazine-Keystone, Colo., Dec. 18, 2006-Keystone resort has become the first ski area to offer "geocaching." This high-tech treasure hunt challenges players to find hidden "geocaches" that are located via GPS units. "It's a cool way to introduce people to Keystone, as well as a fun kind of adventure for families," resort spokesperson Amy Kemp told the Denver Post in a recent article.

Some visitors checking in for their vacations at Keystone receive a GPS as part of a special lodging package which includes a $150 Garmin eTrex Legend GPS (which the guest keeps). Visitors get a list of coordinates, then embark on their treasure hunt, traveling via chairlift, snowboard or skis, and finding their way-and exploring Keystone's three mountains-with their new GPS. The treasure: each geocache contains a variety of prizes, small gifts, and coupons that can be redeemed in the base village.
