The non-profit Vail Valley Foundation will spearhead the bidding process. The VVF is behind a vast array of Vail valley events, including the Birds of Prey downhill races at Beaver Creeks and a variety of cultural events hosted throughout the area.
"We're doing our homework to make sure that this is something the valley wants," John Dakin, vice president of communications for the Vail Valley Foundation, told the Vail Daily. According to the published report, the foundation is expected to seek support from the Vail Town Council on Tuesday, and has already initiated discussions with Vail Resorts regarding the bid. And they've already lined up support from Vail's mayor, Rod Slifer.
The FIS will consider Vail as well as other contenders for the 2013 championships next spring at the organization's congress in Capetown, South Africa. \
