Too Little, Too Late in Europe?

  • Push to The Latest: No
SAM Magazine-Valle di Fassa, Italy, Apr. 4, 2007-It's probably too late to save the European ski season, which suffered through some of the worst opening months in history, but snow is finally falling in many parts of the Alps, including Italy. The Trentino region in particular is scoring late-season storms, which have dropped between 20 and 50 centimeters (8 to 20 inches) on the peaks. In the Valle di Fassa snow up to 40 centimeters deep covers the valley floor. However much the late snow does for the resorts, though, it won't help hardgoods and softgoods manufacturers. "Europe was tough this year," admits Volkl's Geoff Curtis. "People are going to get by, but that's all they're going to do."
