  • Push to The Latest: No
SAM Magazine - Arapahoe Basin, Co., January 9, 2008 - One of Colorado's smallest ski areas is poised to nearly double in size with the opening of Arapahoe Basin's Montezuma Bowl on January 11. The expansion will increase the ski area's terrain by 80 percent, with an additional 400 acres. The expansion is the largest in the nation for the 2007-2008 season.

Montezuma Bowl features 36 named runs comprised of blue, black and double black terrain. Several runs will be groomed nightly, providing the intermediate guest with much coveted additional cruising terrain. Hike-back terrain below the lower lift terminal is also available for the adventurous skier or rider who has more interest in experiencing a remote, backcountry feel.

The expansion is serviced by a Leitner-Poma fixed-grip quad. The Zuma Lift was finished on schedule in late October and spans 4,100 feet in length and rises 1,100 vertical feet. The ride time is 9 minutes from top to bottom and the lift has a capacity of 1,900 skiers per hour.
