Crested Butte Launches Adventure Skiing Program

SAM Magazine-Mt. Crested Butte, Colo., Nov. 7, 2008-Crested Butte Mountain Resort is teaming up with Crested Butte Mountain Guides to offer a new "Adventure Guide Program" this winter. The program will combine backcountry ski skills and education with guided in-bounds and out-of-bounds skiing.

"This is the perfect addition to our programs," says Nick Herrin, ski and ride school director for CBMR. "Experienced guides will evaluate needs and ability to create a mountain experience guests will never forget." Guests will learn about, and be supplied with, the the tools and knowledge for hiking and exploring the mountain. Backcountry Access Tracker transceivers, probes, and shovels are also available for guests interested in learning how to use the gear. Costs for the in-bounds program range from $380 for half-day to $610 for all-day programs. , and $1,070 for two-day sessions.

A two-day Backcountry Guide program ($1,070) will include out-of-bounds exploration as well. "The Backcountry Guide offering is for people looking for an adventure outside the ski area," adds Herrin. "The first day will be spent on the mountain learning backcountry skills and equipment usage, such as skinning, transceiver practice, and safety procedures. The second day will be an adventure exploring the backcountry terrain and pristine powder in the area that Crested Butte Mountain Guides are permitted." \
