  • Push to The Latest: No
SAM Magazine-Killington, Vt., Jan. 19, 2009-Killington Resort and Burton Snowboards joined forces this past summer to break ground on the East Coast's first Stash run, one of only five in the world. The Stash opened to the public in December, with a grand opening on Jan. 15. Celebrating the day were Burton pro riders Dave Downing, Yale Cousino, and Hans and Nils Mindnich, along with several dozen journalists; a dozen or so VIP scribes from from New York City arrived in style via Amtrak's Ethan Allen Express.

Riders and skiers alike braved the cold to check out the run and one of its unique features, a sugar shack. Inside the shack is a mural paying tribute to Jake Burton's early days in Vermont, painted by Scott Lenhardt. Scattered throughout the run are headless yetis created by renowned chainsaw artist Bob King. Downing, Cousino and the brothers Mindnich threw down and showed their stuff on the Stash's tree jibs, pole jams, bank turns, hips, flat down logs and the wood banked wall ride.

The Stash at Killington Resort is the first in the Northeast. Other Stashes can also be found at Northstar-at-Tahoe, USA; Avoriaz, France; The Remarkables, New Zealand; and Flachauwinkl Resort, Austria. \
