SAM Announces the 2010 SAMMY Recipients

SAM Magazine-Woodbury, Conn., April 1, 2010-SAM Magazine is proud to announce the recipients of the 13th annual 2010 SAMMY Leadership Awards. They are:

1) Julie Maurer, vice president of marketing for Boothcreek. Julie first joined Northstar-at-Tahoe in 1982 as a PR assistant and quickly moved up to marketing director. Under various owners, Julie's talents were tapped on a corporate level serving many resorts. Currently, under Booth Creek, Julie oversees all sales and marketing efforts for Booth Creek's four resorts: Northstar-at-Tahoe and Sierra-at-Tahoe in California and Waterville Valley and Cranmore Mountain in New Hampshire.

2) Dave Rathbun, general manager for Mt. Bachelor, Oregon. Dave started his industry career in 1986 at Stratton Mountain as a liftie. Not soon after, Dave worked his way up to general sales manager. In 1997, Dave moved to Copper Mountain for Intrawest and became the consumer sales manager. In 2005, Dave returned to the East as Killington's VP of sales, marketing and reservations. But the West called again and, in 2008, Dave accepted the position of president and GM of Mt. Bachelor in Oregon.

3) Tracy Samples, human resources director for Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia.

Tracey joined Snowshoe Mountain's resort team in 2001 and worked her way up to lead the human resources department by 2006. Since 2006, she and her team have decreased the dependency for international workers by 75 percent, established a three-year competitive wage program, and implemented a drug-free workplace program. In 2008, Tracy and her team established the Snowshoe Career Center, which provides a place for Snowshoe employees, their family members and potential employees to take college classes, computer application classes and apply for unemployment services.

"The 13th year of the SAMMYs has once again highlighted forward-thinking and talented people in our industry," says publisher Jennifer Rowan. "These three peer-nominated recipients have the respect of their teams, their bosses and their guests and we look forward to their future accomplishments."
