Maintenance worker Karl Stunt, 25, died of head injuries after being struck by a metal bar while working on a chairlift at Sunshine Village. The court ruled that the area could not be held accountable for a "bizarre and unforeseeable" incident. The judge noted that Stunt and two co-workers knew the proper procedures for the work, and determined that the resort was not liable for their "momentary inattentiveness," which led to Stunt's accident. The ruling voided a lower court's $5,000 fine and a requirement to set up a $250,000 scholarship in Stunt's name.
