Clear Fork Returns to Life

SAM Magazine-Butler, Ohio, Apr. 11, 2011-Four local residents have acquired the Clear Fork Ski Area here and plan to turn it into a year-round destination.

The four, Rick Weemhoff, Brian Johnson, and Ben and Luke Flynn, all grew up near Clear Fork, where they all worked and played. The area closed in 2006 after 40 years of operation. The foursome has formed Slater Run Land Development LLC to redevelop the site, and plan to invest $55 million in the effort.

The plan includes upgrading and expanding the winter facilities, including improvements to the current lodge and constructing a new lodge and conference center. The area will add three trails to its current 11, and expects to upgrade plant and equipment as necessary.

For other seasons, the group has plans for a variety of activities, from mountain bike and ATV trails and a motocross track to mini golf, concerts, festivals, and shows. Weemhoff said the summer goal is to offer an activity every three weeks, including bands and car shows. Facilities will include an indoor pool and function rooms for private parties.

During the next five years, the group also plans to add condominiums-starting at less than $60,000-plus cabins, chalets and yurts.
