SAM Magazine--October 27, 2011--Burke Mountain, Vt., hosted an official ribbon cutting of the new wind turbine with Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin on Wednesday, October 26. The new wind turbine, installed in August 2011, was designed by Vermont-based Northern Power Systems. Burke Mountain is one of only four mountains in the country to have a wind turbine and the second in Vermont.

Here are a few facts about the turbine:

-Stands 121 feet tall

-The energy being produced is almost equal to the energy needed for the new chairlift the ski area installed

-Generates approximately 15% of the mountain's electricity use

-Expected to produce just under 300,000 kilowatt hours
