SAM Magazine—Denver, Jan. 25, 2018—Alterra Mountain Company, the recently-named joint venture that curated a dozen North American mountain resorts last year, unveiled the name of its highly anticipated season pass product HN ikonpass 12518and the mountains it will provide access to. The Ikon Pass will go on sale this spring, and passholders will get unlimited access to, and/or a set number of days at 23 different mountain resorts—Alterra’s 12 properties, and 11 partner mountains. The company said details on access, pass benefits, and pricing will be released in the coming weeks.


“The Ikon Pass is a collaboration of like-minded mountain destinations across North America where incredible terrain, unique character and local traditions are celebrated,” said Erik Forsell, chief marketing officer for Alterra Mountain Company. “We’ve curated a community of iconic destinations. We believe this new pass offers tremendous opportunity and appeal to mountain enthusiasts who have a passion for outdoor adventure.”

Ikon Pass partner destinations are Aspen Snowmass, Copper Mountain Resort, and Eldora Mountain Resort, Colo.; Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyo.; Big Sky Resort, Mont.; Killington Resort, Vt.; Sunday River and Sugarloaf, Maine; Loon Mountain Resort, N.H.; and Alta Ski Area and Snowbird, Utah.

Alterra Mountain Company’s destinations are Steamboat and Winter Park Resort, Colo.; Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Big Bear Mountain Resort, Calif.; Stratton, Vt.; Snowshoe, W.Va.; Tremblant, QC; Blue Mountain, Ont.; Deer Valley Resort, Utah; and CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures in Alberta.

A majority of the 23 resorts included on the Ikon Pass are currently part of either the M.A.X. Pass or Mountain Collective. According to the FAQs on the Ikon Pass website, the M.A.X Pass is one of three popular season pass products, along with the Rocky Mountain Super Pass and the Cali4nia Pass, that will no longer be offered after this season. It says the Mountain Collective will live on, but no further information is available at this time.
