Aspen Snowmass, Smuggs’ Lead SKI’s “Resorts of the Year”

  • Push to The Latest: No

SAM Magazine—Boulder, Colo., Sept. 21, 2018—SKI Magazine readers have named Aspen Snowmass, Colo., and Smugglers’ Notch, Vt., the Best in the West and East, respectively, in the magazine’s revamped reader—and now editor/contributor—poll. The HN skimagmagazine presents top picks for a wide range of resort services and characteristics in its October issue.

The new Resorts of the Year issue hands out plenty more accolades, from Reader Picks—based on the results from the 2018-19 Reader Resort Survey—to Editor's Choice, awarded by the magazine’s editors and contributors based on multiple seasons of resort travel. In total, SKI doled out 37 awards among 67 resorts.

In the West, Montana's Whitefish Mountain Resort ranked highest in Overall Satisfaction, awarded by readers for the mountain's legit terrain and the town's welcoming local vibe. Colorado's Keystone was named most Family Friendly for its excellent ski school and inventive kids' programming, while Steamboat earned the Down Day Activities award, thanks to downtown's charming Western shops, cafés, and galleries. British Columbia's up-and-coming Revelstoke Mountain Resort earned an Editor's Choice award for Next Best Places thanks to its abundant terrain, snow, and stoke.

In the East, Sugarbush, Vt., earned the Service award, and Mad River Glen, Vt., took the Challenge title. Editor's Choice designations went to Cannon Mountain, N.H., as a Hidden Gem, and to Stowe, Vt., as a Top Ski Town.

"We've developed this issue based around one single question, 'Where should I ski this winter?'" said Samantha Berman, content director for SKI Magazine.

"Our ongoing research shows us that people are looking for far more nuanced content today than the straightforward ranking system of previous years,” she added. “Our audience is hungry for insights and intel—they want to plan vacations and craft experiences to remember for years to come."
