Colorado Ski Country USA Resorts Set Skier Visit Record

SAM Magazine—Denver, June 10, 2016—The 21 member resorts of Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) recorded a record 7.4 million skier visits during the 2015-16 winter season, up five percent year-over-year and 10 percent over the five year average. Combined with Vail Resorts’ areas, which are not included in CSCUSA figures, visits for all Colorado resorts likely topped the 12.5 million statewide record set two seasons ago.

Abundant early season snow carried momentum through the mild and dry months of January and February before things picked up again with more major storms late in the season.

“In many ways it was a story of two springs, with the latter half bringing a deluge of snow resulting in resort season extensions, re-openings and bonus weekends,” said Melanie Mills, president & CEO of CSCUSA.

The CSCUSA numbers account for its 21 member resorts and not the four Vail Resorts (VR) properties located in the state—Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge. VR withdrew from CSCUSA in 2008. Including the VR areas, Colorado resorts accounted for 24 percent of the nation’s total skier visits, CSCUSA said.
