Eldora Withdraws Objections to Patrollers’ Vote to Unionize

  • Push to The Latest: No

SAM Magazine—Nederland, Colo., May 29, 2024—Eldora Mountain Resort president and general manager Brent Tregaskis informed members of the resort’s ski patrol today that Eldora is withdrawing its challenge to the patrollers’ vote to unionize and shared a desire to bargain in good faith.ELDORA

“After careful consideration, Eldora Mountain Ski Resort sent a letter to Isabel Aries, the Local 7781 Organizer with Communications Workers of America, stating that we are withdrawing our objections and asking for their commitment to work with us,” said Tregaskis in an email to patrollers. “The letter outlines our desire, upon the NLRB’s [National Labor Relations Board] certification of the vote, to bargain in good faith towards an agreement for our Patrol.”

In October 2023, 71 percent of Eldora ski patrol and medical staff signed cards in favor of holding a union election. Patrollers then voted in favor of unionizing by a 29-3 margin in April.

Until now, Eldora and parent company POWDR have opposed the effort. The NLRB was reviewing several challenges to the vote filed by POWDR, as well as the union.

However, in a letter to CWA’s Aries, Tregaskis said, “I am writing you in the hopes that the Communications Workers of America, Local 7781 (“CWA”) and Eldora can find a path forward to commence bargaining in good faith. Although we stand by the underlying merit, we are withdrawing the objections so that we can focus on what is important: our Patrollers.”

Tregaskis thanked the ski patrollers for their “patience and understanding as we navigate this process. We understand that this news may prompt questions and concerns. As always, my door is open and I am happy to discuss these matters with you at any time,” he said in his email to patrollers.
