While the fire still rages uncontained in Jasper National Park, the ski area reassured patrons that it intends to operate this coming winter.

“This will take much work on the part of many, and we can’t wait to see our friends back on the slopes this winter,” said the resort, noting that updates would follow as more information became available.

“Our first priority continues to be supporting our staff during this profoundly difficult time,” the resort added. “We are eternally grateful for the unending and selfless efforts of so many who have, and continue to, tirelessly protect our people and community.”

In an earlier update, the ski area offered its profound thanks to firefighters and those on the front lines and its gratitude to the many folks who have reached out during “a devastating week for our community.”

More than 1,100 personnel and 100 organizations have come together to support the wildfire response in Jasper, with firefighters deploying from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Yukon, and Northwest Territories.

Even so, the fire remains classified as “out of control,” and updates from Parks Canada warn that the threat to the national park and the Municipality of Jasper remain present.

The complex is estimated to be roughly 32,500 hectares (more than 80,300 acres).

More than a third of Jasper townsite was damaged in the blaze last week, and residents have not been allowed back in due to ongoing safety risks, according to an official post from the municipality.
