Paul Maitland Magic GMSAM Magazine—Londonderry, Vt., Aug. 7, 2024—Magic Mountain has promoted mountain operations director Paul Maitland to general manager. Maitland will report directly to Geoff Hatheway, president of Magic Mountain and managing member of Ski Magic, LLC.

“Paul has earned the respect of our staff in not only successfully managing the mountain operations group but bringing more staff input into all aspects of the business as we keep evolving Magic’s growth strategy through the end of this decade and beyond,” said Hatheway.

Maitland has served as the ski area’s director of mountain operations since 2022. His career began in 1995 at Stratton Mountain, Vt., where he worked in mountain operations for more than 25 years, rising to senior management.

“I’m thrilled to have been asked to lead the team at Magic Mountain, where we embrace the challenge of preserving its unique character while modernizing essential aspects such as snowmaking and sustainability,” said Maitland.

“The combination of Paul’s attention to detail in managing the customer experience across the mountain while collaboratively driving our team strategically to where Magic needs to be over the coming years is extremely important for our continued growth as an independently owned and operated ski area,” said Hatheway.

Ski Magic, LLC purchased Magic Mountain in November 2016 and has since invested millions in upgraded lifts, new and upgraded snowmaking infrastructure, and lodge and restaurant renovations. The ski area has also more than doubled its skier visits during this time frame, according to a press release.
