More International Expansion Possible for Vail Resorts

SAM Magazine—Bloomfield, Colo., May 27, 2016—Vail Resorts’ CEO Rob Katz said that the company is looking to expand its portfolio of resorts, with possible acquisitions in perisher resort ski emailsize Canada and Japan “a higher priority,” according to Snow Hunter’s World Weekly Snow News. The strength of the dollar has increased Vail’s buying power in recent years.

Vail went outside U.S. borders for the first time when it purchased Perisher, Australia’s largest ski resort. Vail’s U.S. properties experienced double-digit growth in visitors from Australia this past winter, making Aussies the company’s largest international incoming market. Katz attributes the growth to the introduction of the Epic Pass family of products.

Vail Resorts is the second largest ski resort operator in the world, behind only the French Compagnie des Alpes, which owns Chamonix, Les Arcs, and La Plagne, among others.
