SAM Magazine—Lakewood, Colo., Jan. 12, 2018—The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) has named Michael Lane as its new director of technical services, a nsaa logoposition primarily focused on lift safety, education, operations, and maintenance. Lane is currently the national ropeway engineer for the USDA Forest Service. He will assume his role at NSAA in February 2018.

“NSAA is fortunate to find someone with Mike’s experience and knowledge. He understands ski area operations and his expertise in the area of lifts will benefit the entire ski industry,” said NSAA president Kelly Pawlak.

Lane serves on many committees and boards, including ANSI B77 and OITAF NACS.

He will succeed Sid Roslund, who has held the technical services position for 27 years. Roslund said, “Mike’s years of service on the B77 Committee and knowledge of the industry will make the transition as smooth as any of us had hoped for.” Roslund will stay on through May, assuring a smooth transition with the ANSI B77 Committee and the spring lift maintenance seminars.

Lane has been with the Forest Service for the past 17 years, and was the project manager with Doppelmayr for 10 years prior to that. He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University.

“I believe my knowledge of lifts and interest in training and education with help me to continue and improve important work with the ski areas. I am really looking forward to the opportunity,” said Lane.
