SAM Magazine—Perisher Valley, New South Wales, June 2, 2023—Vail Resorts has appointed Nathan Butterworth as the new vice president and general manager of Australia’s Perisher Ski Resort, effective June 12.Nathan Butterworth VP GM Perisher Ski Resort He succeeds Belinda Trembath, who was named as vice president and COO of Whistler Blackcomb, also owned by Vail Resorts, in April. 

Butterworth previously served as vice president and GM at Hotham—a sister-resort located about 225 miles southeast of Perisher—since April 2022. 

“Under Butterworth’s leadership, Hotham posted its strongest season on record last year, and he successfully navigated complex initiatives over the course of his tenure, including the sale of Hotham Airport,” said Doug Pierini, senior vice president and COO of Vail Resorts West Region. 

Prior to Hotham, Butterworth spent 20 years at Perisher in a variety of roles including resort services director, where he led and oversaw ski and ride school, guest services, retail, rentals, tickets and passes, among other responsibilities. 

“Over the course of his 21-year career, Butterworth has contributed tremendously to the Australian ski industry and has also been an instrumental leader in the development and launch of Vail Resorts’ Epic Australia Pass, building upon the interest sparked by the Freedom Pass, which he also helped create,” Pierini said.  

“It is an honor to be returning to the resort as its new leader after building my career there—I look forward to jumping in with both feet, reconnecting with the team and community, and starting snow season strong once again,” said Butterworth.
