Staff Changes Coming to Vail Resorts’ Northeast Properties

SAM Magazine—Broomfield, Colo., Oct. 26, 2018—After closing on its recent acquisition of Triple Peaks LLC, which includes Okemo, Vt., and Mount Sunapee, N.H., Vail Resorts has created a new “Northeast regional structure,” whichVail Resorts Okemo entails leadership shuffling, layoffs, and promotions.

Doug Pierini, previously VP and GM of Kirkwood, Calif., is moving east to become chief operating officer of the Northeast Region. He will also take over as general manager of Okemo. Effective yesterday, Okemo general manager Bruce Schmidt is taking over as general manager of Mount Sunapee. Sunapee GM Jay Gamble “will stay on to support the transition until Friday, Nov. 9, when he will be departing,” VR said in a statement.

Both Schmidt and Stowe GM Bobby Murphy will report to Pierini.

Okemo director of public relations, Bonnie MacPherson, has been promoted to Vail Resorts communications manager, Northeast.

Sources indicate a total of 17 or 18 staff are affected, but details are not yet known. Following previous VR acquisitions, layoffs have typically occurred in IT, marketing, and finance departments where positions are duplicated within Vail Resorts. Those laid off typically have the option of applying for other positions with the company.
