Waterville Valley Begins Terrain Expansion

SAM Magazine—Waterville Valley, N.H., Aug. 30, 2016—The Green Peak expansion project, which gained permits in 2013, is finally underway at Waterville Valley in New Hampshire. The resort is cutting 10 new trails Waterville Expansion emailsize that will add 45 skiable acres, served by a new fixed-grip triple that is scheduled to be open for the coming winter season.

The new lift will rise 1,000 vertical feet, with an uphill capacity of 1,800 riders per hour. It will serve a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain. This is Waterville’s biggest expansion project in more than 30 years, and comes on the heels of one of the most challenging winters in recent memory.

The resort is sourcing much of the work locally. M.E. Johnston Construction of Thornton, N.H., and Wade Reed Logging of Rumney, N.H., will provide the site work. SkyTrans Manufacturing, based in Contoocook, N.H., is installing the lift.

“This project builds on our history together, starting when O.D. Hopkins Associates, the predecessor to SkyTrans, installed the very first lifts at Waterville Valley Resort,” said SkyTrans GM Rich Combs.

Waterville Valley CEO Chris Sununu said, “There’s been a lot of hard work done by members of our team and the U.S. Forest Service to make sure this project is a success. We are especially excited to be partnering with local New Hampshire contractors for this project.”
